The Biosphere Reserve

In 1990 the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) designated the Niagara Escarpment as a World Biosphere Reserve. Local communities are challenged to live harmoniously with the ecosystems that surround them, conserving the plants, animals and micro-organisms, maintaining healthy natural systems while at the same time meeting their material needs and aspirations. E’Terra is in the core area of this Biosphere Reserve. Laurie Adams is a past chair, continuing to remain as a director of the local biosphere community committee.
