On a rainy November afternoon (1999), four colleagues discussed the possibilities of building a unique accommodation style facility: a facility that could accommodate the captains of the corporate towers where they could stay and work in luxury, while maintaining an environmental philosophy as well as achieve economic benefits? Would these executives seize the opportunity to learn about the benefits of a holistic environment and lifestyle? Would it influence them to move forward in the direction of sustainability and holistic practices? Could there be a balance between the world we work in and the one we call home?
The immediate response from a sceptical engineer was that to build such a place was nearly impossible and that the corporate world and its counterparts didn't care! Economics only, what was this ethics? A dare to prove otherwise was set in motion and at that moment, Laurie Adams began the process of manifesting the unimaginable. She assigned the “Three E’s”, environment /ecology, economics and ethics, of Eugene P. Odum philosophy towards E’Terra’s principals for balance.
The journey found Laurie questioning all professionals and corporations on their environmental practices and ethics. The process tested friendships and family to the maximum and sent her searching the inner depths of the very questions that life itself poses. As a result of her five-year personal quest, with a kaleidoscope of emotions, incredible patience and the positive energy of the jovial local tradesman, E’Terra rose up mystically from the Niagara Escarpment.
E’Terra’s philosophy has grown from the experience of the building process. Today’s world has changed in such a short time with words “climate change” becoming common, daytime television selling “green” products, and “green” celebrities lending their images to the covers of popular magazines. The image of the granola-eating environmentalist is obviously over. The awareness from then to now is proof of an evolving planet.
Laurie Adams is extraordinarily passionate about protecting the planet and its natural resources always striving for Balance.
E’Terra represents good health, with sound and moral decisions made with each purchase investigated from its source to its final end. Laurie believes that we need a healthy population to make sound decisions resulting in a healthy environment that is essential to our planet’s future.
Start here… venture into the profound experience of all that E’Terra represents.
